Celebrating a Lifelong Bond: Jane Fonda Pays Tribute to Robert Redford in Photos

Jane Fonda broke down as she mourned the death of Robert Redford, who passed away at 89. The two shared over 50 years of on-screen chemistry and a friendship that endured off-screen. “It hit me hard this morning when I read that Bob was gone. I can’t stop crying. He meant a lot to me and was a beautiful person in every way,” Fonda said. She praised his vision for America and his influence on independent cinema.

Their collaborations included Barefoot in the Park, The Chase, and their final film, Our Souls at Night. Fonda admitted she “fell madly in love” with Redford while filming, adding, “Every movie I made with him, I developed a crush on him.” On Instagram, she posted photos of their work together and reflected on the laughter and connection they shared.

Her most poignant regret: “I wanted to see him these last few months to make sure we were all right between us, but I didn’t act soon enough. When people are our age, late 80s, don’t wait.” Redford once praised Fonda as “a force,” admiring her resilience.

She said working on Our Souls at Night let her fall in love with him all over again. Their enduring bond—built on trust, respect, and affection—leaves behind a legacy Hollywood will never forget.
